It was a long time arriving, but South Surrey artist Nicci Battilana of Brushed With Magic functional art and home decor is now a media star – in the U.S. at least.
That’s where her segment on HGTV’s That’s Clever finally aired on the morning of July 30.
Filmed in June of 2006, the segment, introduced by host Angela Martinez, showed Battilana demonstrating her paint and glue-on-fabric techniques for creating colourful cartoony decorative art – in this instance a hand-painted cushion cover and a hand-painted armband/bracelet.
Although it was broadcast only in the U.S., the segment can be seen online through Battilana’s website, www.brushedwithmagic.com or on YouTube.
Battilana, who also participated this weekend in artist Joanna C. Bevis’ team painting a mural of mermaids at play on the walls of the East Beach public washrooms maintains a busy schedule of art events and showings.
Her art was featured in the prize home for the B.C. Children’s Hospital Home Lottery, and also in a window display at South Point’s Artful Things in February, as well as at Canada Day by the Bay, and in donations to Crescent Park Elementary’s silent art auction in March and to Bras for a Cause, benefitting Ovarian Cancer Canada and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada.
Her art work ranges from paintings to art wear and illustration to glass wear all of it distinguished by her hand-painted flair and love of bright colours.
