Never Been Kissed…
You often hear a Sculptor explaining that the untouched piece of stone (or wood) speaks to them. It tells them what they are to be.
The other day I attacked a new canvas, as I was so excited to have a ‘large’ canvas to work on for a change. Yes, the correct work would be … ‘attacked’.
It was so wrong. It felt as if I had ruined the canvas forever.
The next day I could not get what I had done off of my mind.
That night I ended up heading straight back to my easel and lathered coat after coat of gesso and white acrylic paint until it was at peace again.
Until, I was at peace again. (FYI: I am not a fan of Gesso & had bought this jar before I new what it was made from.)
Normally I hang out with me new canvas, be it a piece of clothing, a cushion cover, or a wall canvas, etc before I begin to embellish it.
To obtain the best results from both myself and the canvas I must spend time with it and mentally, spiritually (if you wish) embrace it.
Always be patient and cherish your canvas as though it has ‘Never Been Kissed’ before you succumb to letting your paint brush stroke its surface.
After a week of having my canvas rest on my easel beside the place I sleep at night, I began to decorate her surface and let her introduce herself.
She told me her name is ‘Envy’.
Keep smiling & creating,
Nicci
