A Painted Curtains Falls in White Rock.I am very dis-heartend today.
This morning I rcvd our local newspaper, the Peace Arch News. I am always eager to check out our Arts section of the paper to see who is in the news in our little (but growing)Arts Community. Today I was over taken with shock and sarrow to see that Scott Wheeler passed away on the weekend at the young age of 48.
I have been putting off contacting him for a couple of years now. Himself and Marlett Magnussen were my introduction to the enriching world of Community Arts and Theatre back in 1998.
I was stage manager for two productions.
Only an Orphan Girl - Marlet Magnusson
Alakazam (Pantomime)- Scott Wheeler
A good Friend D Browning brought me in with him to share in the role of Stage Manager for the production of 'Only an Orphan Girl'.
Scott was known as the glue which held our little theatre, The White Rock Players Club, together and the striving force behind its survival.
Scott introduced me to the world of Pantomime. I always thought We had a few similarities. For example, he was never afriad to put himself out there and do whatever he wanted to do. He didn't mind to push a few buttons and shock people. He was going to experience life and have fun doing it. There is a lot of stress put on ones self when you take that role in life, yes, but you just don't have it in you to back down, conform yourself to others ideals, just to have less visable stress in your life. In reality, if you did conform to the 'norm', you would be absolutely miserable.
Thank you Scott for moving to the beat of your own drum and sharing your life with as many people as you did.
My life was enriched by having spent just a little bit of time with Scott & I hope to never forget him.
Please help keep his dream alive of the new playhouse being completed. It is near completion, however the fundraising is still required. Please by a brick in your name or make an donation through the White Rock Rotary. He has worked hard to give what he can to our community and it would be wonderful if we could all learn a little from him and help the Arts.
It is 5:30pm and I still haven't even put any eyeliner on today (that's not at all like me). Maybe it just hit all that closer to home since my Dad was the same age when he passed away.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD AT EARL MARRIOTT SECONDARY SCHOOL, 15751 - 16 AVE, SURREY, ON SATURDAY FEBRUARY 25, FROM 11.30 AM TO 1.30 PM. DOORS OPEN 11 AM.
PLEASE NOTE THAT HAWAIIAN SHIRTS AND SIMILAR DRESS ARE REQUESTED, IN KEEPING WITH SCOTT'S PERSONAL DRESS CODE.
Stay Happy & Healthy!
Make sure you always dance and laugh at least once before you go to bed every night.
