COMMISSIONED WORK and the YOUNG ARTIST:
Well, my GODDESS platter and bottle are now off with their happy owner. She was so pleased she has now also ordered two custom cushion covers for her bedroom (YEAH!).
She plans to initiate the platter next weekend at a party and promises to give out my contact details to those interested. ..... You never know what opportunities are around the next corner.
When she gets back to her home in Alberta, she will be forwarding me fabric samples from her new bedding.
I cannot wait to begin these after my show at this year Circle Craft Christmas Market.
As for the YOUNG ARTIST ... my son did his very first painting on Friday night after dinner. My husband and I started him off by showing him what to do. I painted his name and then did a heart and my husband did a small happy face.
Duran proceeded to add red paint to the happy face and told us that it was 'Mr Krabs' from Sponge Bob....and it was. We told him what a great job he did. Then he added more read paint and advised us that he had turned it into a dragon.
He had a wonderful time. We will have to pull out the paints and other art supplies more often.

Yesterday at my friend Violette's house (during her studio tour) I had a wonderful lady request that I paint a custom cushion cover of her daughter. After my show in November, she will send me a photo of her daughter to work from. She advised that she has been watching my website and seeing my artwork progress. She also advised me that she is pleased that I observe other skin tones other than my own.
This is something I have been doing for a long time, but I haven't really acknowledged myself. I did however vary skin tones more often than I used to after my visit to South Africa a few years back.
I have been witness to prejudice most of my life, but none as strong and diverse as in South Africa. One of my tour guides had it so bad in her family that one set of grandparents refused to accept that she ever existed! It wasn't over a different skin tone, it was due to their heritage being Dutch instead of British. It is amazing how stubborn and intolerant some people are and the extent they will go to in life.
Amazingly (without planning to) that brings us to what we are celebrating at my Mom's house this evening.... Thanksgiving.
Accepting and helping those around you.
I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving and spread some good will.
Keep smiling & creating,
Nicci
